Jack Tunney was a Canadian professional wrestling promoter and executive who is best known for his time as the President of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from 1984 to 1995.
Tunney was born on January 21, 1935, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was the nephew of Frank Tunney, a prominent wrestling promoter in Toronto. Jack Tunney began working for his uncle in the wrestling business in the 1950s and eventually took over as the President of Maple Leaf Wrestling, the Toronto-based promotion.
In 1984, Tunney was appointed as the President of the WWF by then-owner Vince McMahon. During his tenure, he played a key role in the success of the WWF during the 1980s and early 1990s, overseeing major events such as WrestleMania and helping to establish the company as a global powerhouse in the world of professional wrestling.
Tunney was known for his no-nonsense, authoritative manner and for his ability to make tough decisions for the good of the company. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006.
